My new parakeet is shivering. What does it mean and how can I help?

Sky might be feeling a bit cold or nervous from the change to a new home. Making sure his cage is kept in an area that is free of drafts and not too warm or cold can help, as well as making sure it's not in an area that is super busy or noisy. Give him a few days to settle down in his new home- you can observe and offer him some treats in the cage itself, but waiting a bit to handle him until he's had a change to settle in may help.

    It may be that Sonu is too cold. Moving his cage to a draft-free area and making sure the room it is in is warm enough may help. If he continues to shiver, or is showing other signs of illness such as trouble breathing, not eating or drinking, etc, it could be that he is ill and should be checked by a vet ASAP.

I have a parakeet that I just adopted from a pet stare, and this morning I saw some unusualness in him. He has been less active then my other parakeet and has been trembling. He also looks shorter than he used to. Is my parakeet sick?
Thanks for reaching out about Storm. Trembling is concerning as is being hunched in posture. Most avian veterinarians provide heated incubators in the 80-85 F range, to give support. A veterinary visit is recommended if he continues to tremble and be lethargic. Monitor appetite and water consumption. Good luck.

hello ... we just got a budgie parakeet this past friday .. we believe it is a male.. but he does not chirp that much and he has trimmers like he is cold or something .. could it be the new place ?? and how do help him feel comfortable ?
Congratulations on your new pet, and thanks for your question! I would recommend ensuring that the area where Oliver is located in does not have any drafts. This includes any air from vents that are in the house. Birds can be very sensitive to temperature changes, so this will be something to evaluate closely in your house. Other things that can make Oliver tremor would be if he is nervous, as you suggested, or if he doesn't feel well. Things you can do to make him feel comfortable include providing him with a quiet area for his cage, and if he is alone, a mirror. I would recommend having him evaluated by a veterinarian as well. This is important for any new pet, and birds are no exception. Your veterinarian can perform a thorough examination and can also provide further recommendations for husbandry and diet for Oliver. hi my love parakeet bird trembles a lot and I do not know why but when I grab her she calms down. do you know why???
Trembling can be a sign of a number of things including fear (if she is doing it before being handled), being too hot or cold, or feeling pain or illness. Making sure the area she is in is cool, but draft free may help. If she is trembling before you pick her up, it may be that she is scared and stops trembling when held because she is being held tightly or is too scared to move in your hands. Slowing down how often you handle her, and offering treats before you do may help. If she is trembling all the time, or showing other signs of illness such as listless behavior, not eating or drinking, not interested in activities, etc, then it may indicate pain or illness and should be checked out in person by a vet.

Baby bird is shivering after I hand fed it.
If your baby bird doesn't have all his feathers in yet, he could still be having a hard time regulating temperature. Feeding food that is chilled or too cold may cause his temperature to decrease some, causing the shivering. Making sure the food is room temperature and that your baby bird is in a warm enough environment can help. However, if the shivering continues or if you see any other signs of illness it is best to have it checked out by a vet.

why is my budgie shaking? And I know she is not cold. I don't have any vets in my reach. please help me.
Thanks for reaching out about Peach. Shaking can be from many reasons. Being too cold is one, most parrots are comfortable in 80-85 degree weather. They shiver to create heat. Covering the cage will not generate any additional heat, so a heat lamp should be provided. Shaking can also result from being sick. A veterinary visit is needed to arrive at a diagnosis and treatment plan. Good luck.

my 8 month old parakeet seems to be ill. she always sits at her perch. only moves when she has to eat. She is not eating as much as she used to. Sometimes she holds her wings away from her body. She also bobs her neck. Plus she is shivering. I don't
It does sound like she may not be feeling well. Unfortunately, the best course of action is to try and find a vet that can see her, as birds tend to have very vague and general symptoms of illness until they are very sick. An exam would be needed to determine why she may be shivering or not as active. Until you can find a vet, separating her fro the flock and moving her to a hospital cage that is kept warm and with easy access to food and water can help. This will help keep her warm if she is ill or shivering, prevent the spread of any illness or being picked on by other birds, and allow you to observe her more closely which may provide additional clues for what is causing her illness.

My parakeet is shaking up and down all the time even though it is warm weather. And also he is constantly opening his beak. Is there something possibly wrong with his lungs? Is he sick?
Shivering and beak opening can sometimes indicate stress in birds. Moving Mario to a quieter location, or in an area away from other pets and people and seeing if he feels better may help determine if this is the case. If he seems in severe distress, however, or his symptoms don't improve or worsen, a vet visit is best to rule out any health issues such as a respiratory problem causing his stress.

I just got my bird today and i noticed they tremble a lot should i be worried or is this normal?
If you just got Amondae today she could be a bit nervous and that is why she is trembling. If she is in an area that is too cold she may also shake or tremble. Making sure she is warm enough and giving her a day or two to settle in may help. However, if the trembling continues, you see other signs of illness, or it doesn't improve at all, a vet visit is best to rule out any health problems.

Got her 4 days ago. Noticed her stomach area feathers are shivering as she breathes. Is this normal? Read it could be from illness, stress, or excitement. What do you think? Coyld it just be because we took her out of the cage today and handled her?
It could be stress or excitement from the new environment, handling or a combination. If she is bobbing her tail excessively while breathing, this can indicate potential illness. Monitor for lethargy, decreased appetite or loose droppings. Give her a few days to acclimate and if the behavior persists, have her examined by your veterinarian. Have her examined sooner if she develops any of the above symptoms.
