When can I apply Revolution to my cats after Advantage 2 flea treatment?

We treated our 2 cats with a generic Advantage 2 a week ago. We just received our Revolution in the mail. How soon can we apply the Revolution for their flea infestation? They're 5lbs, and 6lbs. 5 mos old.

Great question! According to the package insert for Advantage 2, you can safely reapply once every two weeks, so it would be fine to give them the Revolution now. You can also give them Capstar. It's a one time pill that starts killing fleas in 30 minutes and is safe to give with the Revolution. Don't forget you will need to disinfect the environment as well. Wash their bedding in hot soapy water, and vacuum the furniture and carpet surfaces. You can use a spray to kill fleas in the house, such as Indorex, or a flea bomb would work well to kill the fleas in the home. I hope this helps!

Great question! Yes, you can use Capstar now, and it's safe to use daily until it's time for his next dose of Revolution. Keep in mind that fleas live in the environment, not on the cat, so if you haven't disinfected your home, it will be a continuing source of fleas. Three 11 week old kittens received a dose split 3 ways of fipronil 4 days ago by previous owner. Found more live fleas today and gave them a bath witb dish soap. When can I give them kitten Revolution?
I would not recommend using revolution for 3 more weeks. You can administer an oral capstan. This will kill all live fleas for 24 hours. Also, make sure you are treating the environment to help decrease and manage the life cycle

Hi, My 11 week old kitten just came home from his care taker and I found flea eggs and a flea on him. The care taker advised that he had given him a dose of Revolution about 1.5 weeks ago. What should I do now?
It's safe to give Chester Capstar. This is a one time pill that starts killing fleas in 30 minutes. Wait until it's been at least two weeks since he last was treated with Revolution, and then it's safe to give him a repeat application of it. Best of luck, I hope this helps!

we went on vacation to clean city Maryland and my dog came home with fleas. we applied his parastar plus 15 days ago and we are still finding live fleas on him. we purchased advantage II, can we put it on him now or wait another 15 days?
Great question! Because 15 days have passed, it's fine to give Roman the Advantage II. I would also give him Capstar. Gave my solet indoor cats Revolution 4 days ago and they are still licking themselves raw, not sure if they have fleas, cause they won't sit still enough for my to check, all black cats. When can I give again?
You should wait at least 3 weeks before applying it again. You can use an oral product, such as CapStar (nitenpyram), which will kill any fleas on your cats within 30 minutes IF they have fleas. It can be given daily if necessary. To be safe, vacuum everywhere and dispose of the bag or empty the canister outdoors immediately after then wash all bedding in the hottest water allowable by fabric and dry in the dryer. Use a cat safe area treatment afterwards. You can use Indorex or Knockout ES, but you will need to keep the cats out of treated rooms until all surfaces are completely dry. Use e-collar (cones) to prevent further licking. They may need antibiotics to treat or prevent infection if they have open sores from licking. A diluted Betadine or chlorhexidine (Hibiclens) solution can be used to gently clean minor sores or abrasions.

Momiji is so cute! This is a great question. Because you washed him a week after applying the Revolution, it will still work. The medication will have been absorbed into his system. If he still has a lot of fleas, you can give him Capstar. It's an oral medication that starts killing fleas within 30 minutes, is safe to give once daily, and is safe to give with the Revolution. Keep in mind as well that fleas live in the home, not on the animal. They jump on to feed and then just off, so you will also have to disinfect the environment. Wash his bedding in hot soapy water, and vacuum the furniture and carpet surfaces. You can use a spray to kill fleas in the house, such as Indorex, or a flea bomb would work well to kill the fleas in the home. I hope this helps!

Hi there we gave our cats frontline on sep 7th still had a huge flea issue. vet said we could re apply on sept 21 and we are still seeing a lot of live fleas on the cats! When would it be safe to give them advantage?
You should be able to give the advantage (for cats) about 10 days after having reapplied the Frontline. However there is more you need to do to get rid of fleas: Unfortunately fleas only hop on the body of your pet when they want to feed, then they hop off again and stay in your pet's environment. So you need to treat all pets in the household as well as the environment (which contains the fleas, their eggs and larvae). Flea treatment:  1) Get some flea medication such as a Flea spray or a spot on from a pet shop or your veterinarian and apply monthly (as you have done) 2) get flea powder, put some in your vacuum cleaner bag and vacuum your house and furniture and also non-carpeted areas frequently to remove flea larvae and eggs which live off house dust., Dispose of the bag in the trash outside. I have two ferrets who are over 2 years 1.5 and 2 pounds who got a full flea treatment or revolution 12 days ago and the fleas are back pretty heavy. Can I split a dose of advantage II between them safely or will that be too much?
Revolution is used monthly, so it would not be recommended to apply a dose of Advantage II. Splitting a dose would not be recommended without the advice of your veterinarian to prevent overdose. To resolve a flea infestation, you need to treat the environment for fleas as well as all pets in the house. All pets should be treated monthly for at least 3 consecutive months to break the flea life cycle. Begin treating the environment by vacuuming everywhere then disposing of the bag or emptying the canister outdoors immediately after. Wash all bedding in the hottest water allowable by fabric and dry in the dryer. Use an area treatment afterwards to prevent reinfestation.
