My dog is limping and yelping with pus between paw pads. What's wrong?

I would like to know what's wrong with my dogs paw. He's limping around on it and yelps when I try to take a look at it. It seems that there's puss between his pads on his front right paw. I can't find a wound or anything stuck in it. What exactly is the problem?

Poor Rocky! He could have a foreign body in it such as a grass seed or foxtail, which would be hard to see or find. If there is pus present, then it is infected and he should see a vet first thing the morning. The infection will require oral antibiotics to treat it. Rest him tonight, and try soaking his paw in an Epsom salt bath to see if that gives him some temporary relief. I hope this helps!

You can try and bathe his foot in very warm epsom salt solution for ten minutes at a time three times daily, as it may help for a foreign body to come out, if there is one in the paw. You need to check between the toes and pads for a thorn, stone, or any injury. If you can, palpate the toes to check for pain, which would signal either a sprain or fracture. This could also be caused by a snake bite or bite of another animal and now it may be infected. This is about all you can do until you get an appointment with a veterinarian (any vet!). You will need to get help to get him outside and into the car. If this is so bad that your dog is falling, then he should be seen right away by a vet.

My dog is 2 3/4 old he is very active & he's been limping at times & I think it has to do with his pad what should I do?
It looks like an infection/inflammation. you can try bathing the paw in epsom salt bath twice a day, after the bath dry the pad very well. if he is licking the paw you will need to put an e-collar around his neck, you should also avoid any long walks or run until he gets better. if you do not see any improvement within a week you should take him to the vet in order to get it treated.

You need to take Rusty to the vet today, the paw will need to be checked, by the sound of it it could be either an injury or a foreign body in the paw that will need to be removed. he will definitely need antibiotic and pain killers at the very least, hopefully it is something minor that will resolve within a few days with treatment.

Hi. I have a 6 year old boxer who has about a 3/4 inch black mark on his right paw and a small bump within it. He is limping on it but not whining or anything even when he hobbles on it.
It could be an infection or a mass so he should be examined by a vet to determine the cause and treat. He may need an antibiotic, anti-inflammatory, or the mass may need to be removed. Schedule an examination with your vet to have it evaluated. You could also soak his paw in a warm Epsom Salt solution and see if that help.

My dog has a place on his foot between his paw pads causing him to limp. About a week ago I took him to the vet and they prescribed an antibiotic as well as an anti inflammatory. But he’s still limping and it looks pretty nasty. He seems to be eating
it looks infected and like there is pus in it. If there is no improvement after antibiotics then he needs it biopsied or surgically removed. They can sedated him to clean the hair and area then see if there is a foreign body stuck in it causing the recurring problem or a growth. Surgically removing it can get your to clean fresh edges and ahead of the infection.

My dog cut his paw pad open, it’s not bleeding but it’s red and raw. Is there any at home care I can do? I don’t think it requires stitches, he can still walk and run on it but he will limp here and there. What should I do?
Ouch, poor Oakley! Gently wash his paw with warm water and antiseptic soap. Bandage it and put a sock over his foot to keep the bandage clean and dry. Change the bandage daily and keep an eye out for signs of infection. They include redness, swelling, warmth to the touch, and pus. If you see any of those signs, take him into the vet for antibiotics. He's limping because he is in pain, so rest him for now. No running, jumping, or playing. Take him out to toilet on leash only, and bring him right back in when he's done. Please do not give him any human pain medication. Many are toxic to dogs and can be fatal if given. My dog has a tiny lump on his paw. He was ok when we took him out n now he is limping and whining.
Poor Arnie! It sounds like his paw is hurting him, and the lump could be from a foreign body like a grass seed or foxtail, an infection, or an injury. Pain is causing him to limp and whine, so I would give your vet a call to set up an appointment to have him seen. Until you can get him into his vet, limit his activity since he's painful and only take him out to potty. Bring him right back in when he's done. Please do not give him any human pain medications, as many are toxic to dogs and can be fatal if given. Best of luck, I hope this helps!

Nail fell out last week. He’s been fine up until tonight now he’s limping and the toe looks swollen
Poor Rocky. The swelling can indicate infection and limping means he is in pain. Unfortunately there are no OTC pain relievers you can give him, as many are toxic to dogs and can be fatal if given. You should take him into a vet now to have him treated. I hope this helps!

On a walk Colbie out of the blue yelped and began limping. Her back left paw pad area seems to be the source of pain but we cannot tell for sure. We can't see anything stuck and can't determine if it's swollen but it is obviously very painful to touc
I cant see anything obviously wrong with the pads like a wound or penetrating injury. Have a really good look and press the paw all over. Don't worry about opening her toes, she will yelp a bit but you need to have a good luck. If she is incredibly sore or tries to bite you stop. It could be that she has simply bruised the paw or sprained a ligament when she was out. If you can't find any wounds or damage on the paw I would let her rest it overnight. You can see if it's any better in the morning. If it's no better or worse, or if you find a sizeable wound or infection, take her to the emergency vet. Otherwise see how she gets on and reduce exercise for a while.

My dog just started limping the other day I did full range of motion with no reaction. I believe he has a tear or sore between his toes. He puts very little pressure on his paw. There is no blood or smell and no drainage. Nails are not split or crack
Poor Skylar! If you think that the problem is in his paw, you could try soaking it daily in warm water and Epsom salts for the next few days - this often helps with minor injuries or soreness in this area. If the issue is minor, it will likely resolve on its own during this time. If the limping continues for more than 3-5 days with no improvement, then it would be best to have Skylar seen by a vet as he may need x-rays to help determine the problem as well as prescription anti-inflammatory or pain medication to make him more comfortable.
