Why is my dog's head and neck yellow? Is this normal coloration?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Jack Russell Terrier | Male | neutered | 2 years and 2 months old | 15 lbs

Why are our dog's head and neck yellow? He is two years old and has been like this since he was a puppy, though he's become more yellow with time. He has been put exclusively on hypoallergic food (because of the sensitive stomach), and hasn't been given any spot-on protection against ticks and flea for several months (we're giving him NexGard orally). We've been wiping him daily with Camon Salviette. We've consulted a pet dermatologist, but we didn't get any definite answer.

Lazar is adorable! To me, this looks like normal coloration--some dogs are not pure white, but cream and yellow in color. This yellow color usually is darker on the back, head, and top of the neck, and more cream or white below. I don't see anything wrong with your pup--this looks like natural coloration! Hope that helps!
