Pet's info: Dog | Chihuahua | Female | spayed | 3 years and 11 months old | 8 lbs
I took dove to the vet and the vet had asked us some questions and looked dove over on the skin and said it might be allergies to pollen. She sent us home with some pills to give dove. Should i be worried that my vet didnt even do some kind of test to see if it is allergies? And should i change dove’s food?

Hi and thank you for your post on Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! There is a test for allergies you can request for Dove, but it is a little expensive. It will, however, tell you what allergen Dove is allergic to. Allergy testing can help differentiate between an environmental allergy and a food allergy. It can be helpful to have this information. However it can be determined fairly easily if it a food allergy versus a seasonal allergy depending on when symptoms occurs. If the skin issue occurs year round, it may be a food allergy. If it is seasonal, then it may be seasonal allergies. I would not change the food unless your veterinarian believes it is food allergy related and has advised you to do so. I hope this helps and best of luck to you and Dove!
