Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Male | unneutered | 9 years and 8 months old | 90 lbs

My dog is a 9 years old diabetic mutt. He is suddenly lethargic, has dry nose, white gums and vomited once today. He's also separating himself from the family and breathing a little labored. What could be the cause?

Oh dear, Biggem sounds extremely ill. These are highly concerning signs. White gums, labored breathing, and acute lethargy are all signs that warrant a visit to an emergency vet immediately, as they can be life-threatening. Possible causes of these signs could be due to diabetic ketoacidosis, gastric dilatation-volvulus (GDV; bloat), heart failure, among others. At this point, I strongly recommend taking Biggem directly to an emergency veterinary hospital for immediate evaluation. I hope that all goes well.
