Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Male | unneutered | 7 years and 11 months old | 30 lbs

Hello doc My dog had a swollen hind leg wich has improved very much after a week. We have been taking him to vet. But since the time hez leg is swollen there has been light REDDISH penile discharge. It's not always. Only seen just 1 or 2 drops only in morning. He's not licking hes penis except very rarely. We don't let him go with other dogs now. Is it because of this that he has this rare penile discharge ? However hes on lasix coz of swelling. Hes activities are very normal and urine normal

This penis discharge isn't as rare as you would think. I see that Scooby isn't neutered. In dogs who aren't neutered, prostate problems are a very likely cause of bleeding from the penis. These problems include benign prostatic hyperplasia, prostatitis, and prostate cancer. The bleeding could also be caused by a UTI or bladder stones. I would take him into your vet today for an exam. Your vet can do a rectal exam to see if his prostate is enlarged, and can do x-rays, routine blood tests, and a urinalysis to see if he has a UTI or bladder stones. If he does have a problem with his prostate, neutering him is one of the recommended treatments. I hope this helps!
