My dog cries all night after fireworks. Is it anxiety from moving?

Pet's info: Dog | English Cocker Spaniel | Female | spayed | 17 years old | 11 lbs

Hi, I've a 7 yr old cocker spaniel who moved from Ireland 2 weeks ago. We've been spending lots of time with her to make sure her transition is healthy, her bed, food bowls, toys were all here before she arrived. She's been sleeping in the living room on her mattress or on the sofa. Three days ago she got scared because of fireworks and started crying, scratching and banging on our door. I brought her in. Last night she started doing the same ALL night even though no fire works. What should I do?

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Dogs do take time to adjust and this may be something that she just needs some more time to get used to her new surroundings. You are doing everything right. Having all her usual things (bed, toys, etc) is a great idea. Remember that everything around her is new. I would give her another month or so before worrying too much. She will demand more attention in this transition period which is normal and expected. Good luck!

It definitely could be because of the fireworks, especially if she is not used to them or was separated from you during them when she is normally with you instead. I would give her a couple days to calm down and see if that helps. If the strange behavior continues even after a few days of no more fireworks, a visit to your vet to rule out any health issues is always a good idea as well.
