My dog's pinched nerve & arthritis flare-up: What helps the pain?

Question

Hello recently took my dog to the vet she was DX pinched nerve in her neck and back arthritis she was given 3 different meds tramdol, gabapentin, methocarbamol for relief on Friday. She is still in pain my question is how long can this flare up last? Is there anything else I can do to help reliever her pain? Thank you for any advice worried mom

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I recommend calling your Vet Monday when they open and ask if they can prescribe either prednisone or a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory (like Rimadyl, Dermax, Previcox or Galliparant). Most dogs with back pain and a pinched nerve need some sort of anti-inflammatory. None of the 3 listed medications do anything for inflammation. Try not to give her any human medications. If you think she is in terrible pain bring her to an emergency hospital to be evaluated. Bring the 3 drugs you were dispensed Fri so they can see them. After their exam they can also prescribe other one of the above. I hope this helps and I wish your dog a speedy recovery!
