My new rescue pit stares at our cat. Is it aggression or curiosity?

Pet's info: Dog | American Pit Bull Terrier | Male | neutered | 3 years old | 60 lbs

Hi! We just got a rescue pit named Ace, he's 3 yrs N & gets along great w/ my other pit Thor. We have a cat named Loki who is also 3 N & doesn't mind dogs as long as they dont get in his personal space. The only issue (I think) is that while loki is walking around Ace sometimes stares at him or while Loki is on our lap, on the window sill etc. Is this a sign of aggression or curiosity? We have a strict rule of no playing w/ the cat that has been working w/ our prev. dog.

This is probably nothing to be concerned about but I would try distracting Ace when he's doing this so he doesn't get fixated on Loki. I would call Ace and give him a treat, pat or toy when he turns and comes to you. With practice you should easily be able to get his attention focused on you and not Loki or other animals or people. It's always best to offer a an acceptable behavior instead of just saying no. Also make sure Loki has private space to be away from the dogs and many hiding places should Ace go after him. Until you are sure Loki is safe please monitor them when they are together. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach to help you care Ace and Loki.
