Hi there, My dog is palliative with what's assumed to be a benign growth inside his head. I stayed feeding him home cooked food and to be honest, wasn't overly concerned with getting every micronutrient perfect because I didn't expect he's be here long. Now after long walks (he LOVES long, slow walks) he's getting a painful spasm in one of his legs, after one walk where he did a lot of running. Possible strain but considering potassium defncy. He's old and has early kidney changes.

Poor Rupert! He sounds like a sweet little dog! I think it is very appropriate to make sure he is on adequate pain medication at this stage, both for the tumor as well as the leg issue. For older dogs I like to use an opiate pain medication like Tramadol, in combination with something like Gabapentin that doesn't have liver or kidney side-effects. Acupuncture and laser therapy are often very beneficial in these older patients as well. Hope that helps!
