Why does my dog breathe fast and run to me at night? Is it dreams?

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Female | unspayed | 2 years and 6 months old | 30 lbs

My dog hero, at night breathes fastly, runs in room ,calls me, but I. Morning everything comes to normal..it's happening from 4 or 5 days...plz hlep

Given that this in only happening at night, I would suspect Hero is having dreams that are upsetting her and she is running into your room for comfort. Dogs do dream and can reach to those dreams. Unfortunately there's nothing you can do to stop her from dreaming, but there will be nights where she doesn't dream and sleeps peacefully. I hope this helps!

    This is pretty non-specific behavior, so it's hard to know exactly what's going on. Hero may be having some gastrointestinal issues at night, like vomiting or diarrhea, and is asking go outside to the bathroom. Or, she could be worried about something going on in the neighborhood like other dogs barking. Or, she could be having neurologic issues at night like a small seizure that wakes her up and worries her. Or, this could be purely behavioral, like if she is going into heat and there are intact male dogs in the neighborhood. I recommend a full exam by a veterinarian to make sure she looks healthy and has no underlying health concerns.

Sometimes Harley’s breathing starts to quicken while he’s sleeping. He is usually laying with me, so I pet him and he calms down. I don’t think it’s a health problem, but I was wondering if he’s dreaming or something else.
Dogs dream just the way we do, so increased respiratory pattern and sometimes vocalizing happens as well. As long as it is transient and goes back to normal then I would not be worried. Best of luck and thank you for using Pet Coach.

Ever since Loki was a little puppy, whenever he goes to sleep and he's dreaming he always makes a wincing noise over and over when he breathes in and out. Could he be having night terrors or something?
It is not uncommon for dogs, especially puppies and younger dogs, to make noises or have movements (such as moving the feet/running/breathing rapidly for a moment) in their sleep. We assume they are dreaming, and most dogs don't seem to be negatively affected by this!

It could be reverse sneezing, or it could be a reaction to a dream Pearl was having. Dogs do dream, and they can have breathing changes in response to it. If it's happening only when she sleeps, that is what I'm imagining is happening.

I have a 13 week old lab, pit mix. (Jenson) he seems to get hot when he sleeps, and breathes fast and hard, and his nose gets hot. He also jerks cries, and paints (spelling?) really hard in his sleep. Is that normal?
This sounds like normal puppy dreams and is nothing to worry about. Puppies tend to have very vivid dreams doing things they would be doing if they were awake, such as running, jumping, barking and playing. My French bull has had no breathing problems in the past but for the past few nights he has been breathing quickly when asleep
Dogs can dream, and their breathing can change in response to their dreams. If Loki is only having these changes while sleeping, I would suspect that is the case. Now if he starts having these breathing changes while awake as well, then I would be concerned and have him seen by a vet. I hope this helps!

I have a staffie puppy 8 weeks old and is breathing rapidly while sleeping but through out the day when he's awake his breathing is fine should I be worried?
This rapid breathing you are seeing in Noah may be due to him dreaming. Puppies dream, and it can be accompanied by movements and changes in breathing. If his breathing is normal during the day, I would not worry about it :-)

My dog has been waking up the past three nights panting around 2 am for a couple minutes then falls back asleep. She sleeps at the end of our bed. She wakes up completely normal in the morning. Should we be concerned?
If she's otherwise entirely normal (eating normally, drinking normally, good energy during the day, seems like herself behaviorally/mentally), I wouldn't be too concerned about this middle of the night behavior. Everything I can think of (seizures, neck pain, other pain, metabolic issues) would also cause issues during the day. That said, if she keeps it up for a week or more, a general vet appointment may be good to confirm nothing is going on.

Hi, thanks for using Boop by Petco! If all this happened while Lucky was sleeping then it is likely normal and she was having a dream. Just be sure her breathing is normal awake. My dog does this a lot, his whole body jumps, he whimpers or cries out. When I touch him he either wakes up or stops and continues sleeping. As long as she is normal awake I wouldn't worry!
