My dog has back pain. Can I give her human pain meds like Motrin?

7 lb poodle has back pain. Can she b given motrin n if so, how much? Shes otherwise healthy.

No, it is not safe to give Buffy Motrin, so please do not give it to her. Many human OTC pain medications are toxic to dogs and can be fatal if given. The only safe pain medications for dogs are available at the vet. I would have her seen by a vet first thing Monday to get pain medication prescribed. In the meantime, rest her as much as possible. No running, jumping, or playing. Take her out to potty on a lead only and bring her right back in when she's done. I hope this helps!

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Bimbo. Motrin is very toxic to dogs so you will need to stop giving him that medication. It can cause severe kidney damage or even ulcers in the stomach or intestines. Ulcers can be indicated by black tarry or coffee grounds like stool. I suspect you were right that he is painful based on your description of his behavior. Small breed dogs can be prone to back pain. The muscles that line the spine can spasm making the dog very sore. There not over-the-counter pain medications that I can recommend for him. I would keep him very quiet and carry him as much as possible. Encourage him to eat and drink as much as possible. If there is any way he could see a veterinarian, it would be best. I hope this information helps.

For Minnie how many milgrams of Motrin can I give her? I am taking her to the vet in a few hours but in the meantime can I give her Motrin?
NOOOO!! Do not give any Motrin!! I don't know why you want to give this but if you are going to take her to the vet you do not want to mask any signs that the vet may need to make a diagnosis. Also, the vet will want to give you a different kind of anti-inflammatory and that will react with the Motrin. Motrin (ibuprofen) has a VERY narrow safety margin so just the tiniest bit of overdose can be life-threatening. Please don't give her any medications and just wait until you get her to the vet for an exam. I hope this helps. Best wishes!

I'm sorry that Moo-moo is hurt! Unfortunately, both ibuprofen and Tylenol are toxic to dogs, so you cannot give her either of these medications. There are no over-the-counter human pain medications that are safe for dogs, so I'm afraid that you will need to take her to the vet for an exam - he/she can prescribe a safe and effective pain medication for her if needed.

You should never give this medication or any other that contain Ibuprofen to your dog as it is toxic, doses as low as 5mg/pound could potentially be toxic to Nina. The amount you gave her is not likely to cause a severe toxicity, but you should watch her for any of the following: Diarrhea, Vomiting, abdominal pain and anorexia. If she shows any of these symptoms- take her to the vet urgently.

No, human pain medications are not safe for dogs. Many are toxic and can be fatal if given. If Mia is in a lot of pain, you need to take her into a vet immediately to get pain relief. Please take her into an ER vet clinic; if there isn't one in your area, there will be a vet on call for emergencies. Unfortunately no. Many human pain medications are toxic to dogs, and can be fatal if given. I recommend resting her for the next 48 hours. No running, jumping, or playing. Take her out to toilet on a leash, and bring her right back in when she's done. If she still appears painful after this time, then I would take her into the vet for an exam. The vet can diagnose where the pain is coming from, and can dictate a treatment plan for it. She may also benefit from some pain medications, which the vet can prescribe.
