My dog's anus is darker. Could it be a yeast infection or normal?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Shih Tzu | Female | spayed | 5 years and 8 months old | 17 lbs

I’ve notice my dog’s anus has gotten darker. She eats what I believe to be good quality dog food. Honest Kitchen dehydrated food and Party Animal wet food. She had been a lot less since I changed her to this food but it now pretty much back to normal. Is this cause for concern?

The changes in skin color can be normal base on the environemtn but may be a sign of yeast infection on the skin also. If it has an odor, is oily, or itches her then that is a sign it may be a yeast infection and she will needed to be treated. If she is normal with no signs noted, then you can monitor the area
