Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Both stools are normal. One isn't better than the other. Different foods can cause the stool to be slightly different colors. I would choose the food that he likes the best. Personally the first picture is an ideal stool, so that would be a good choice! I hope this helps and good luck!

Hello, yes indeed changes in diet may also affect the consistency of the stool. Depending on the new food, this may take some time to improve, or his stools may continue to be softer. This is typically an indication that the new food may have a higher fat content. If his stools do not improve, you may need to switch him back to his old food or try a different food. Hope this helps and best of luck.
