Is collagen safe for my cat? What's the right dose and how to mix?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Hi,recently I found 100% pure collagen types 1&3, I have heard that it is good for animals,so I thought I can give to my older cats, but first I want to ask you is it safe for cats and if it's how much I should give them, one friend told me I have to give 1 or 1/2 teaspoon of it to one cat for one day,is that correct or what dosage you will recommend? Also is it needed to be put in water or other fluids or I can mix it in their wet food?Thank you.

This is a new supplement in the human market, and as such there are no established dosing ranges for its use in pets. I cannot think of a reason that it would be unsafe since pet foods already contain animal sources of collagen, but if you can take a picture of the ingredients of the product you want to use, we can help you evaluate it. It may need to be dissolved in water, since adding it to wet food may cause a gelatin to form that the cats may not like.
