My dog's seborrhea is raw and painful. What can I do tonight?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Maltese | Male | neutered | 12 years and 6 months old | 13 lbs

Cooper has Seborrhea. I have been bathing him with medicated shampoo twice a week and a medicated spray daily. Today his skin was really red and looked raw & painful. He shivered when I touched his back. We're going to the vet tomorrow eve. But I don't know what to do tonight. should I use cortizone cream, bath him (like the vet tech recommended) or use the spray again. I'm just afraid the water or spray will sting like crazy. What do you recommend?

Ouch! By the picture it looks like Cooper may have a skin infection. Since the type of medicated shampoo or spray is not listed for me to comment on, I would probably wait until you see the veterinarian for guidance. If you have any oatmeal based shampoo that may be soothing. I hope Cooper feels better soon!
