My foster cat has cloudy eyes, white film, nosebleeds. What's wrong?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Male | 3 months old | 2.5 lbs

I have a foster who's eyes were cloudy when we got him, almost like cataracts It was like a white film over his eyes. He's been through antibiotics and convenia injection. He had x rays showing a slightly enlarged liver. His eyes are getting worse and he is now bleeding out of his nostrils. I have seen hundreds of URIS but this is different it's like there was literally a layer of white over his eyes and they won't respond to ointment or drops and now the nose bleeding. What could this be?

Hello, sorry to hear about Buster. It sounds like he may have a severe case of herpes URI. However, other causes ma include eosinophilic syndrome in cats and an eosinophilic keratitis. The conditions require different medications for them to work and therefore he needs to be assessed by your veterinarian or even an ophthalmologist to ensure you are not dealing with an eosinophilic syndrome which will likely not respond to topical antibiotics. Hope this helps.
