Why is my newly adopted dog shaking when standing or lying down?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Whippet | Male | 6 years and 11 months old | 31 lbs

I have adopted my dog 2 weeks ago and he is behaving very in his new family having great time with my kids. However, very often we see him slightly shaking (like tremor) when he stands or when he lies down ( not while sleeping). Can this be some sign of distress being taken from his first family or it is something else. He is not cold definitely

I am sorry to hear about Marty! Some dogs will tremble as a result of stress, but we can also see trembling as a result of pain (is it is only happening when Marty is getting up and down this could be possible because these are times when stress is put on the joints in the body), and we can also have what are called "idiopathic tremors" in some dogs that are incidental. I would recommend videotaping one of the episodes and then bringing Marty and the video in for examination by your vet to ensure there isn't a medical cause of the trembling.
