Why is my senior dog constipated, vomiting, weak, and falling?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Male | neutered | 11 years and 9 months old | 22 lbs

My dog hasn't passed stool in five days and it trying to vomit. He's 11 yrs. Have gone to the vet these last couple of days and they found he has an enlarged heart; but nothing more. He keeps having trouble walking at times; very weak and falling over. Also his tail stays down; that's never happened in all his years. I know in my gut there is something else wrong with him... Can you please help me?

Poor Rascal! It is very concerning that he hasn't passed stool in 5 days and he could be constipated. He could also have a back or hip issue making it painful to defecate. Dogs can sprain their tail which can be very painful so that is also a possibility. If your vet is not able to diagnose and treat then you could go to a different vet for a second opinion. He might just need an anti-inflammatory and pain medications. Hope he feels better soon!
