My cat's eye is swollen shut after toad venom exposure. What to do?

Hello. One of my friend's cat got toad venom in his eye and it is now swollen shut. They live in Trinidad and there are no available vets in her area, as it is 3 am. Could you please advise on how to proceed? We did a research and it says it is fatal but we don't know how to treat it. Eye is thoroughly washed. Thank you!

Unfortunately there is nothing that can be done at home, Oscar has to see a vet asap. You are correct that it can quickly cause death, so getting him treatment from a vet right away is vital. Typically there will be a vet on call for emergencies in the middle of the night. The information to reach that vet is found on a clinic's answering machine or website. I would call around local clinics or search the websites of clinics to find a vet on a call to see him now.

No, this cannot be treated at home at this point in time. I'm very concerned that Manley's eye is swollen shut. Any eye problem is an emergency because leaving it untreated can lead to vision loss. My cats eye is swollen
His eye does look swollen! He could have injured his eye or he could have an eye infection. The eye is such an important and delicate structure that any problem with it should be considered an emergency. That's because leaving it untreated can lead to vision loss. I would take him into a vet immediately to diagnose what is causing his eye to be swollen so it can be treated.

Hi, thanks for using Boop by Petco! Poor Sabian! I am concerned about his eye and I suggest you take him to an open 24 hr Veterinary Emergency hospital. When it comes to eye issues it is best to have the pet seen sooner than later. Possible causes are: corneal ulcer, glaucoma, ruptured globe, severe conjunctivitis, tumor, or tooth root abscess. He needs to have the eye examined, stained for an ulcer and possibly the pressure measured with in the eye. He would nee a safe eye medication to be prescribed based on the cause of the swelling. Poor guy. If the eye is not ruptured or oozing out blackish or reddish material then he should be fine to wait until morning to see a vet. He possibly has a corneal ulcer or scratch due to trauma when he was outside. If this is confirmed by your vet, then topical antibiotic ointment is typically the only treatment required to resolve this.

My cat came home with a swollen face,
Oh no, poor Ollie. The swollen face could be from an accident, getting into something toxic, a fight, or an allergic reaction. I cannot say what is causing his symptoms without seeing him in person, but I can say for sure he needs to see a vet now to diagnose what is causing it. My sister's cat came home injured...maybe hit by a car or in a fight. His eye is badly injured. The local vets is closed at this time. Can you suggest anything?
Unfortunately there is nothing specific to do for an injured eye at home. You may want to try calling the vets office to see if they have after hours instructions for emergencies. Otherwise I think you should just keep Xander somewhere warm and quiet, and try to encourage him to drink water. I would not recommend trying to give any over the counter pain medications as there are no safe options for cats. Good luck!

A (outdoor) cat that has adopted our family has come back with a terrible eye infection. It looks swollen and the entire eye appears to be covered in a thick greenish pus, where you can't even see the eye anymore. Are there any over the counter thing
Oh, poor Oreo! His eye does look awful :( I'm afraid there is really no way around taking him to the vet for this problem, as it looks to be a pretty nasty infection - he definitely needs prescription antibiotics to treat it. There is nothing available over the counter that will help. The good news is, there is no reason that this needs to be an expensive visit - the only costs should be the exam fee, plus the cost of whatever antibiotic or other medication is prescribed. In the meantime, you can try gently rinsing his eye with plain saline eye wash and using a warm washcloth to clean away the discharge. This will not do anything to treat the underlying infection, but may help to make him a bit more comfortable until you are able to see the vet.

Hi, and thanks for your question. That is likely to be due to a mild to moderate conjunctivitis, probably secondary to a trauma or infection. A check up would be needed as appropriate treatment would include antibiotics and anti-inflammatory eye drops. Corneal injuries must be ruled out as well. Unfortunately there is not much you can effectively do back home without veterinary assistance. A picture of it would help to give you further advices. Hello doctor! I have a request. Kindly help me out. Someone has beaten up my cat in her left eye. And she is in pain. She is unable to close her eyes. And there is a swelling. It seems as if someone has pulled her eyes out. She is a female cat.
Yes, it does look like she suffered some trauma to that eye. From the photo, it looks like the eye probably cannot be saved. Kitty should see a veterinarian as soon as possible for an exam. This is a medical emergency, and Sebastian needs to see a vet now. His eye would have been damaged from the bite, and it sounds like there is now an infection if you are seeing pus. This will also be extremely painful for him, and there are no OTC pain medications you can give. Many human ones are toxic to cats, and are fatal if given. If you leave this untreated, it can lead to permanent vision loss. Please take him into a vet immediately, there is nothing you can do for him at home.
