My puppy ran into fridge, now breathing fast and acting strange. What's wrong?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Female | unspayed | 6 lbs

My dog ran into the fridge: since then, she's been laying down, breathing quickly. There is no blood. She rolls around, and seems hot, as if she needs a fan. She lightly responds to noise and took some water. Will she be okay? I can not afford a vet. She is a small mixed breed, if it helps, and about three months old.

Hi and thank you for your post on Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. I am sorry to hear about Tiffany! Running head first into the fridge could have caused trauma to her head and brain which may have resulted in a concussion. If she is now having rapid or irregular breathing, I am very concerned as it may indicate she sustained a head injury. She could also have broken a bone such as a rib. My best advice is to take Tiffany to an emergency veterinarian right away so she can be assessed, diagnosed, and have the best chance for a success recovery.
