My dog's penis is irritated after grooming. How can I help him?

My dogs penis is irritated from the grooming what can i do to make him feel better?

Hi there and thank you for using Pet Coach to address your concern. I would suggest applying Zymox topical ointment or malacetic conditioning spray to the area to help relieve any irritation and prevent infection. If the area begins to ooze or become swollen / more red, I would have a veterinarian examine the area to see if oral antibiotic therapy is needed. If Ches has been licking or chewing the area, I would purchase a plastic cone to place around his neck so that he cannot access the irritated area as this will make things worse. I hope this helps! You can use Triple antibiotic ointment but he will likely lick it right away, usually the best course of treatment is to put an e-collar around his neck as the constant licking is usually the main problem.

Your vets office or pet store may have a soothing ointment such as an aloe Vera gel which may ease the irritation. Do not use human preparations as dogs are likely to lick it off and many are not designed for ingestion
