My new mouse has a belly bump. Could it be pregnant or a tumor?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Hello, I’m asking this for a friend. I will insert a picture to help. She just got mice not even over two weeks ago, so they’re still new. Today, she notice a bump on the belly on one of them and thought she might’ve bought it pregnant and didn’t know. Any thoughts what it could be? Thank you! Picture below:

Thank you for your question. If this bump is only on one side of the abdomen I would be concerned about a tumor or an abscess (pocket of infection). With a pregnancy we would expect a symmetrical swelling of the belly. I would recommend your friend take the mouse to a vet who sees pocket pets for an examination to better determine the cause of the enlargement.
