My dog overdosed on ivermectin. Will the neurological effects be permanent?

Pet's info: Dog | Polish Lowland Sheepdog | Male | unneutered | 7 months and 27 days old

My dog geo is 8 months old few days ago he had itching problem so was recommened ivermectin but after few days he started swaing was unable to walk properly, eyes half opened while sleeping and was drooling showed him to another vet which gave advice that he had an overdose are these effects permament i am very worried?

Hi, thanks for using Petcoach! Poor Geo!! We can not predict which dogs are sensitive to Ivermectin, it is genetic. But all the symptoms you described are classic for ivermectin toxicity. He can never have any drug containing ivermectin. Did your Vet think he had demodex or scabies? There are other drugs that are safer to use. Revolution can treat scabies and Nexgard can treat demodex. It may be wise to have Geo tested for the MDR1 gene. http://vcpl.vetmed.wsu.edu/ The effects should not be permanent!
