My conure threw up after eating lemon. Is he sick or just upset?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Bird | Unknown - Bird | Male | 1 year and 6 months old

My Green Check Conure vomited a couple nights ago an orange liquid and solids around his cage that made a bit of a mess. In the morning he was exceptionally cuddly, but was eating, drinking, and pooping normally and healthily. After everything was cleaned up he was back to his regular playful self, and last night there were no issues either. The day before I fed him a bit of cucumber and a couple of bites of lemon and I'm wondering if the vomiting may be more likely due to that and is not ill.

The acidity of the lemon may have caused some GI upset or irritation. Small amounts of fresh citrus are fine but larger quantities may result in the symptoms reported. He should have no lasting effects. Limit or avoid lemon in the future. Monitor for more vomiting, lethargy or decreased appetite. See your veterinarian or an experienced avian veterinarian if necessary.
