Megavac p protects against parvovirus, while megavac d protects against distemper. Both are serious and deadly diseases that you want to protect Lucky from, so speak to your vet to give him a combination shot to protect him against both. I hope this helps!

There are a whole lot of different vaccines available out there in the world. The one to which you are referring is the Distemper Combination vaccine. In my book, as long as the vaccine is offering protection for the distemper virus, parvovirus, adenovirus, and para-influenza, all the rest are bonuses. But, just make sure that whatever vaccine is being given offers protection for those. If not, I would choose something different. I would also make sure that if you are administering vaccines yourself rather than going to a vet, that you use a very reputable place to purchase them. If the shots were not be refrigerated or were in an inappropriate environment, they may be ineffective. Hope this helps!

Mía’s puppies are going to their first vet visit at eight weeks old b/c the vet preferred they start their vaccines at eight weeks instead of six. I want the litter of puppies to have a parvo and distemper vaccine but my vet said they will be getting
Hi there. You are correct that the pups should be getting both parvo and distemper vaccines at this age. Normally, the actual vaccine that is given is a DAPP vaccine, which is a combination vaccine containing distemper, adenovirus (infectious canine hepatitis), parvo, and parainfluenza. So I suspect that's what your veterinarian is referring to - some vets may call it "the distemper vaccine" as shorthand for a DAPP, which does include parvo. But I would definitely recommend clarifying this with him/her at your appointment, to make sure everyone is on the same page about what the pups are getting. :)

Vaccinating at 8, 12, and then 16 weeks for Canine Distemper, Adenovirus Type 2, Parainfluenza, and Parvovirus and then taking him for rabies shot once done with that. Will he need more doses of the 5 way or is he protected with the 3 does?
Good Evening...thank you for using Boop by Petco! As long as the last DAPP is given at 16 weeks you should be good to go (3 doses of this vaccination is perfect)! You may want to ask your veterinarian about other important regional vaccinations such as Leptospirosis as this may also be a concern in your area. Good luck with Luke and have fun!

Hi there. If your pups are six months old and have never had vaccines, they will need a DAPP vaccine (for distemper, adenovirus, parvovirus, and parainfluenza) now, and a booster in 3-4 weeks. They will also need a rabies vaccine. Other vaccinations such as Lyme disease, leptospirosis, or Bordetella (kennel cough) may also be needed depending on what is common in your area and your dog's risk of exposure - your veterinarian should be able to talk more with you about this to decide if any additional vaccines are needed.

When you are discussing vaccinations I am assuming you are referring to the distemper, parvovirus, adenovirus, parainfluenza combination vaccine (DAPP). If Theodore is only about 6 weeks old he will need at least 3-4 more DAPP vaccines spaced approximately one month apart to be fully protected against distemper. Because Theodore will be at risk until he receives all of his distemper booster shots it is best to minimize his risk by not taking him to places where sick dogs may have been. So avoiding dog parks, pet stores, and kennels is a good idea. I would recommend starting veterinary visits for Theodore around 8 weeks of age so he can be examined and another DAPP vaccine can be given. Please remember to bring a fecal sample with you to the vet visit so he can be checked for intestinal parasites. Thanks for using Boop by Petco and good luck with Theodore!

Hi there! Since Mocha is six weeks old, he should go ahead and start his vaccinations now. He will need a DAPP vaccine (for distemper, adenovirus, parvo, and parainfluenza) now - this vaccine will also need to be boostered every 3 weeks until he is 16 weeks or older. He will also need a rabies vaccine anytime after 12 weeks of age. Depending on his lifestyle and what diseases are prevalent in your area, he may also need to be vaccinated against Bordetelle (kennel cough), leptospirosis, and/or Lyme disease. Your veterinarian can discuss the risks of these illnesses in your area and help you make this decision. And yes, he should also be dewormed. You can use a broad-spectrum dewormer like Strongid or Panacur from the pet store, or get a prescription dewormer from your vet's office if you prefer.

what does the first vaccine in a dog actually does? what is its work?
The first vaccine at 6 to 8 weeks of age protects the puppy from parvo in case it has no maternal antibodies left. If it has maternal antibodies left in its system, the vaccine will not do anything, however we cannot know whether there are any left or not. So it is a "just in case" protective vaccine.

Thank you for submitting your question regarding your puppy. Puppies require boosters of the distemper-parvo combination vaccines every 2-4 weeks until they reach a minimum of 16 weeks of age. Rabies can be given between 12-16 weeks of age depending on local laws where you live. Puppies need two vaccines for leptospirosis. You will also want to consider the influenza and bordetella vaccines. I hope this information helps!

I'm getting a boxer puppy soon. He's 12 weeks old, but he hasn't had any of his shots. Once we start, how many days/weeks will we need to spread out his first 3 parvo shots?
It's great that you want to get your puppy up to date on his vaccines! He will likely need one set of vaccines as soon as possible, followed by a booster 3-4 weeks after that. Your vet may recommend another booster a month after that since he has not had his first round of vaccinations yet. He will then probably need vaccines again a year later. Vaccines that he will likely need include Canine Distemper Virus, Adenovirus-2, Parvovirus , Parainfluenza Virus and Leptospira (often administered in a combination vaccine called DAPPL to reduce the number of injections), Rabies, and Bordetella bronchiseptica (often called the "kennel cough" vaccine). Your vet may also recommend the Lyme and Canine Influenza vaccines, based on your location and your puppy's lifestyle. I also recommend having your puppy neutered and microchipped and signing him up for pet insurance. Puppies should be vaccinated at 8, 12, and 16 weeks of age. They also should be dewormed every two weeks until they are 16 weeks old. With each set of vaccines, every puppy should get a DAPP vaccine. This is the vaccine that protects puppies against distemper and parvo. There are several other vaccines that your vet might recommend depending on what diseases are present in you area.
