My dog has a scab on his leg and won't stop licking it. What to do?

My dog is 8 months and he has a scab looking thing on his leg. He keeps licking it and getting frustrated like it's bugging him.

Thank you for providing pictures of the scab on Elliott! It looks like it could be a wound that's healing, and him licking it will disturb the healing process and could introduce infection into the area. I would put an Ecollar on him to keep him from licking it until it heals completely. hi my dog has a little redness on his leg from where hes itched it or grazed it? it has scabbed over just little red on his leg ?
Try to keep the area clean and dry and make sure Toby isn't licking at it (if he is you can put an e-collar on for a few days). Usually little scrapes will heal on their own but if it isn't healed in the next 48 hours I would talk to your veterinarian who may want to get a better look at the area and may prescribe medicated cleaning products, antibiotics, and even pain medication if it seems to be bothering Toby. You definitely should call the vet in the morning, but until then, we have to stop the licking or it will make things worse. Put an Ecollar on her to keep her from licking it. Thank you for submitting your question regarding Bogart. The only thing at home you can try is having him wear an E-collar. This will prevent any licking causing further damage from self trauma. It may allow the skin to heal. If this is unsuccessful though, he will need to see a veterinarian. The area could be a mass on his leg (benign or cancerous) or he could have what is known as a lick granuloma. I hope this information helps!

My dog has been licking and biting her right front leg for the past three weeks. I recently noticed that the spot that has been bothering her is raw (see attached photo). What can I do to heal this spot and prevent further irritation?
First thing you need to do is get an E-collar (cone) for her to wear. My dog where playing last night and then I saw my dog jump and was licking his legs 1st picture was from yesterday second pic is last night 3rd pic is this morning
Ouch! Looks like a wound from either hitting something, or too rough of play. If the third picture is the newest, it looks like it may be healing and scabbing over. I would keep an Elizabethan (cone) collar on Mickey to keep him from licking at the wound, and keep it clean and dry. If it begins to ooze, opens up again, or doesn't heal, having a vet take a look in person is best.

I just noticed a "scab" on my dogs right leg. She was briefly licking it but not excessively. She doesn't limp or show signs of pain if we touch it. Just wanted to know what it is and if there is anything we need todo?
If no more scabby areas show up and it doesn't get bigger, I wouldn't worry about it. She may have scratched herself on something. If things change, I recommend an exam by a vet to determine and treat the cause. You can clean it once with mild soap and water but the more you mess with it the longer it will take to heal. I noticed this on my dog, it was small at first but now it’s gotten bigger and seems to be bothering him more. He keeps licking it and doesn’t want me to touch his leg. What is it and how do I treat it?
Thanks for sharing pictures of Oreo. The area looks like a region of inflammation that he is making worse by licking. This can potentially be caused by allergies, bug bites, infections, etc. Place a cone on him to prevent him from licking it. You can try applying a small amount of triple antibiotic and keep the cone on until it heals. If it does not improve, he should be seen by a veterinarian. He may require antibiotics or corticosteroids for treatment.

My dog has a sore on his left hind leg. He picks at it and it was pink and a bit bloody today. I first noticed it when I got home from school today. Should I treat it at all?
Place an e-collar (cone) on him to prevent further licking or chewing. This may be enough to allow for healing. Keep the area clean and dry. If it doesn't heal or if it grows or spreads, have Barnaby physically examined by your veterinarian. He may need antibiotics or further diagnostics, such as a fine needle aspirate or biopsy, if it is a lump or mass.
