My dog has a cut near his anus. Is it a ruptured anal gland?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Male | unneutered | 1 year and 7 months old | 13 lbs

My Dog has a cut beside his anus. He is not in any discomfort or pain. He just recently pooped fine. Acting normal, not biting his rear. I did put some antibacterial ointment on it. Just In case for infection. So I go to the vet?

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Based on your pictures it appears as though Jumanji has a ruptured anal gland abscess. I would have him seen by a Vet for oral antibiotics, pain medications and have the other anal gland checked. I hope this helps and I wish Jumanji a speedy recovery!
