Dog's eye swollen, scabbed after running away. Is it an emergency?

Pet's info: Dog | Rat Terrier | Male | unneutered | 6 years and 9 months old | 17 lbs

My dog ran away and when he came back his left eye was bleeding we panicked and cleaned it up now it's swollen and has a black scab like thing covering it Will he be blind and what should we put on there

I would recommend getting Duke to the veterinarian ASAP. If he has a penetrating foreign body to the eye, puncture, or even a deep scratch he could potentially become blind in that eye without quick intervention. I wounds are often very painful and he may require pain medication, as well as topical medication and or systemic antibiotics. But Duke really needs to be evaluated by veterinarian in person to see what type of injury he has sustained. Good luck, I hope he’s back to normal soon.
