Why is my puppy peeing himself after neuter and steroid ear drops?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Male | neutered | 4 months and 17 days old | 15 lbs

Hello, my puppy was pretty much potty trained, but lately he has been dribbling pee. He doesnt seem to be doing it on purpose it just dribbles out, sometimes aftering going outside just a few min before. Sometimes it is a lot. He was just neutered this week, and last week he was taking a steriod ear drops for an ear infection, he is not taking the drops anymore, he hasnt had a dose in about a week and a half. Could the pee problem be a side effect of any of that, or is it just a puppy thing?

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Riley's had a big week! He could have some inflammation from the neuter or a brief lapse in house training from the stress of the surgery and anesthesia. He could also have a urinary tract infection. I recommend calling your Vet Monday and see if you can drop off a urine sample. They can test the urine for infection. If he has a urinary tract infection then they can prescribe antibiotics. If hes doesn't have an infection ask if they can prescribe and anti-inflammatory, if he isn't on one already from his neuter, in cause it's just some inflammation. In the mean time re-institute house training to get him back on track! I hope this helps and I wish Riley a speedy recovery!
