My dog has panosteitis and arthritis. Is a leg brace effective?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Male | neutered | 1 year and 6 months old | 85 lbs

My one and a half-year-old Doberman/ Labrador retriever was diagnosed with panosteitis and arthritis on the same leg. He yelps a lot about it. Would it help if I bought him a compression brace for his leg?

Poor Rosco! I'm sorry to hear that he's experiencing panosteitis and pain! Unfortunately a compression brace will not help this issue and could actually cause more pain for him. Rosco should be allowed to rest and you will need your veterinarian to prescribe pain medication for him if he is not already on pain meds. If he is on pain medications you pain want to contact your veterinarian to see if there are any other medications they can prescribe. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach and I hope Roscoe is on the mend soon!
