Why is my dog throwing up blood, not eating, and can't pee?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Female | spayed | 2 years and 9 months old | 85 lbs

My female dog threw up a blood clot, seems to have a hard time eating and crouches to pee with nothing coming out 10-15 times when I walk her. All of this in a span of 2 days.

I'm sorry to hear that Dakota is sick! Poor girl! I'm very concerned that she has vomited a blood clot and is having a hard time eating and urinating. Dakota needs to see a veterinarian right away to have these issues addressed. A blood clot in the vomit can indicate a severe GI ulcer or toxin exposure and subsequent bleeding. If she is unable to urinate she may have a severe UTI, bladder stone, or kidney infection. All of the above conditions require veterinary medical care. It is likely that Dakota may need blood work and a urinalysis to find out what the underlying cause is. She may need fluids and antibiotics in addition to other support care. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach and I'm hoping Dakota gets the care she needs and is on the mend soon!
