My dog has arthritis. What else can I do for her stiffness and pain?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Female | spayed | 5 years and 9 months old | 105 lbs

Hi, I have a great Pyrenees's/Anatolian shepherd. She's almost 6yrs old, 105 lbs She has arthritis in her hind legs and back. Her vet has her on osteo biflex and prevocox 227 mg daily. She's active. But getting up and moving around for the first couple minutes is really hurting her. After that she moves stiffly. What else can I do for her?

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I’m sorry to hear Chloe is suffering from arthritis. Medically, in addition to an anti-Inflammatory like previcox there are additional pain medications she could be started on. Adjunctively to medications, laser treatments, hydrotherapy (underwater treadmill), and acupuncture are all options you could look into to help her as well. Good luck!
