Cat vomiting blood after vaccines. Is it an emergency or just upset stomach?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | unneutered | 1 year and 3 months old | 8.8 lbs

Hi. My cat has gotten two vaccines today. But he has been vomitting for hours now, around 7 times. These last two times it looked like blood was in the vomit as well. My cat's vet says its not the vaccines, but the cats stomach is upset due to some chicken he ate today (boiled piece of chicken meat). Its 12 am where i live i cannot contact a vet so i would like another opinion as well. Please help me.

Hi and thank you for your post on PetCaoch! Profuse vomiting as you described within 24 hours after vaccine administration can be a sign of an adverse reaction to the vaccine and Rufus should be seen by an emergency veterinarian as soon as possible. Blood in the vomit is concerning as well as that may signal a stomach ulcer. I would have him seen as soon as possible when you can. Until then, you can offer water but no food until you can see a veterinarian tonight or tomorrow morning. I hope this helps and best wishes to you and Rufus!
