My Cane Corso's progesterone is 30.6. Is she ready to breed?

I am waiting to breed my Cane Corso and this morning had a progesterone test done. I was told the number was 30.6. Does that mean she's ready to breed?

Progesterone results can be expressed in ng/ml or nmol/L, so it's important to know how Ellie's number was expressed. I can say that typically ovulation occurs at a progesterone level of 5mg/ml, but there is no ideal level of progesterone. Peak fertility can occur at 10, 30, or even higher levels depending on the dog. If Ellie is willing, I would try to breed her today. I hope this helps!

Ovulation typically occurs when progesterone blood levels reach 5-6ng/ml. If Sadie is at 63.3ng/ml, she should be bred immediately IF she is receptive. If she isn't, you may need to wait until her next cycle to breed her. Given her age however, this would not be recommended.

The progesterone test can be done every 2-3 days starting about 3-5 days into the heat.The beginning progesterone levels are typically less than 1.0 ng/ml until the day before the LH surge. The day of the LH spike, serum progesterone concentrations are 2-3 ng/ml; the day following the LH surge, the serum progesterone concentration is 3-4 ng/ml. Ovulation occurs at a progesterone level of 5 ng/ml. The aim is to identify when the progesterone level reaches 2.5 ng/ml. Natural breeding should occur 3 days after the 2.5 ng/ml mark. Since you are in Pakistan I am not sure what units your Progeterone level of 19 is. If it is in ng/ml you are likely too late this time around. You can definitely try to breed her now. I hope this helps and feel free to repost if your measurements are not ng/ml.

Continue to monitor her progesterone levels every couple days. Ovulation occurs when the progesterone level reaches 5ng/ml. Evaluation of vaginal cytology will also help to determine the best time to breed her.

my dog is on day 7 of her bleeding cycle. I had a hormone test done and its 0.2 is this normal
I am guessing that you had a progesterone level checked, and that it was measured in ng/ml. A progesterone of 0.2 would suggest that she is potentially in anestrus or proestrus and has not yet ovulated. To really know what's going on with her heat cycle we typically will also perform a vaginal cytology to look for characteristic changes in the cells that line the vagina. I would recommend talking to your veterinarian about the test results - they might be able to give a better idea of what might be happening in her particular case.

Is there a way to increase a females hormone level to carry a litter to term?
Yes, progesterone can be supplemented if needed in pregnant female dogs. However, this should only be done in close cooperation with your veterinarian, and only if progesterone testing shows that supplementation is needed - giving it when it isn't necessary can cause birth defects in the puppies, and may also throw off the timing of whelping if you're unsure of her exact due date.

Typically, female dogs can be bred on days 9-14 after the start of their cycle. Since it can be very difficult to know the very first day of the cycle, I would recommend progesterone testing with a vet to know the appropriate timing. Alternatively, you can allow the male to breed her when he is ready, since they often know the perfect time.

I'm not sure I completely understand your question but I will do my best to answer it. In any breeding situation, the best thing one can do healthwise is verify as much as reasonably possible. Ways to do this are to obtain x-rays to verify the health of the hips and elbows. In the case of a Doberman in particular, an echocardiogram to check for any signs of heart disease or defects is paramount. Another Doberman specific test would be to check for von Willebrand's disease, which is a disorder that reduces clotting abilities. Having Gowri's eyes examined by an ophthalmologist for CERF certification is also valuable in breeds that are known for genetic predisposition for ophthalmic disease. If you were asking about what blood tests to get to verify status in the heat cycle, obtaining progesterone levels can be valuable. How do you know that the progesterone level is high? That would be very unusual unless she is in heat and ovulating. The discharge in the photo does not appear to be from a heat cycle and you stated she is spayed. If she is spayed she cannot have high progesterone. I suggest you have her checked out by a veterinarian as this is not normal discharge for a spayed female dog.

What is the ideal time to get pregnant for a dog??
The LH surge can occur anywhere between 3 and 28 days after the first observable signs of heat, although the average is 8-12 days. Ovulation occurs 2 days after the LH surge. The eggs then take an additional 2 to 3 days to complete maturation. At that point they can support fertilization and live an additional 48-72 hours.

Hi, i need to know my Jack Russel optimal breedin time, i took her to a shop today 4 a blood test and was told tommorrow but her vulva doesnt look swelled enough?
The best bet would be to continue serum progesterone testing with your veterinarian. When the values peak (around 4-5 ng/ml) is usually the best time to breed/schedule AI with your veterinarian. If the values are still rising, your vet can let you know when best to bring her in. Vulva swelling isn't always coinciding with ovulation time.
