My dog has keratitis pigmentosa. What happens if we stop eye meds?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Dutch Shepherd | Female | unspayed | 3 years and 1 month old

Dear, our dog has keratis pigmentosa, Episcleritis. Vet didn't do svabs, he said that there is no need.Therapy was 9 days: Uniflox drops 5x1 and Uniclophen drops 3x1.Then 7 days dexametazon drops 3x1, cream Tacrolimus cream 2x1. We finished with therapy and had been told to folow the condition. I'm interested what are consequences for not giving any medicine to our dog because we read that it should't be stoped? We don't live in US and we're concerned that practice here is litttle bit out-dated

It depends on the trigger - in some cases if the underlying condition such as lack of tear production or ingrowing eyelashes can be addressed then the condition will often resolve but in other cases it is slowly progressive but can be reduced by ongoing management. A repeat exam, serial photographs of the eye to compare and a tear test would be recommended after treatment and again one month later
