My puppy had parvo. Can she get it again or is she now immune?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Female | unspayed | 3 months and 29 days old

Is there any possibility that the parvo virus of my puppy around our home would affect again my puppy after she got treated on parvo virus? Or she would be immuned to her virus?

Hello, thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. The best information that we have for Parvo immunity is that puppies are immune from the virus for a very long time. We do not know if the immunity lasts a life time, but unless there is something seriously wrong with the puppies immune system, they should not get the virus again. This does not mean you should stop or skip any vaccinations. Continue with them for the rest of ChaChi's life. Take care.

It's possible he can get it again, but very unlikely. They usually have long-standing immunity when they recover from parvo and older dogs are less-likely to get it than younger dogs anyways. However, to be safe, it's best to ensure that he is getting his parvo vaccine every three years to ensure his immunity is continually boosted. I hope that helps and all is well with Bowser.
