My rabbit's wry neck is getting worse. What can I do to help?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Small Animal | Rabbit | Female | unspayed | 6 months and 29 days old

I have a rabbit who is 6 months old. When she was younger she developed wry neck which I'm sure was the result of her being dropped. She started getting better as soon as I separated her from her siblings and mum. Had a vet check up and had her vaccination and I was given a wormer to treat the wry neck (?!) She was almost completely better with barely a head tilt at all after keeping her in the house so I put her in the shed with my cockatoo and now it's getting worse again. Why? What can I do

Have her rechecked by your veterinarian or a vet experienced in treating rabbits. Her ears should be examined to diagnose infection or tumors/polyps which may cause the head tilt. Cervical xrays may be indicated to diagnose orthopedic injury or deformation.

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! This is a condition affecting the inner ear of the rabbit. This is usually the result of a bacterial or parasitic infection. The specific cause has to be diagnosed in order to help Loppet. For that reason, I highly recommend you have her evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Once the condition is diagnosed, it can then be treated. Good luck!
