My dog has a potassium allergy. Should I avoid all potassium in food?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Chihuahua | Female | unspayed | 2 years and 1 month old | 2 lbs

My 2 lb Chihuahua is allergic to Potassium Alginate and gluconate among a long list of other foods. I have located 2 kibble brands that are good, except one contains Potassium Iodide and one contains Dried beet pulp Potassium Chloride. If allergic to specific Potassium products should you stay away from ALL Potassium? she did have an allergy test, not just an assumption of allergies. Thank you very much

It is impossible to stay away from all potassium altogether as the body requires a certain amount of Potassium, without it it can't function properly., so the answer is no, you do not need to stay away from all types of potassium.
