Is it safe to give my dog Nexgard after recent Frontline use?

Is it ok if I sprayed frontline on my dog a week and a half ago to give him a nexgaurd pill now

Yes, combining a topical flea prevention with Nexgard is completely safe. If you keep Ollie on Nexgard you will not need to use the Frontline. I hope this helps. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Best of luck.

    I personally prefer oral flea and tick preventive as I don't like the greasy feel to the topical ones. In certain areas Frontline doesn't seem to be as effective as it used to be, so I would take that into consideration as well if there are a lot of fleas where you live. You can try it though and always switch back if you like.

Yes, if you feel that you need additional flea protection, you can use a topical and an oral preventative at the same time. I do recommend that you separate them by 2 weeks. This is not because of toxic interactions but just to help overlap the coverage.

Hello and thank you for your post! This combination will not likely cause any side effects. Ideally only one should be given at a time but not nexgard and frontline together should be ok. I would, however, monitor your dog for any symptoms such as tremors, seizures, excessive salivation, lethargy and get your dog seen as soon as possible by an emergency vet for treatment. Can i give my dog nexguard and then take him to petsmart for an advantix flea bath?
Hi and thanks for using Boop by Petco! Not 100% sure what you mean by an Advantix flea bath. Advantix is a topical flea treatment applied on the skin of dogs. Yes you can use Nexgard along with Advantix. Great multimodal flea/tick strategy. After you have used both oral and topical treatments together for 3 months or so, any environmental problem inside the home should be addressed. That gives enough time for most if not all of the immature stages to mature and be killed by the products. After that time period, you may be able to drop back down to one product each month. Depends on your geographical location and your particular flea problem. Good luck

I gave both of my dogs dog md topical flea preventive 4 days ago and it did not help with the fleas. Can I safely give them nexguard or should I wait?
It is better if you wait at least two weeks in between medications. Most of the tick and flea products manufacturers do not recommend using more than one preparation at the same time. It is hard to predict what side effects could develop if two similar products are used at the same time. If you want to call Nexguard's 800 number (should be on the box) and tell them what product you already applied they may tell you it's OK. Don't forget to treat the house and/or yard for fleas. This will help tremendously. I suggest Knockout Spray ES for the house and Advantage II yard spray. You can buy these online without a prescription. Also, don't forget to treat every pet in the household for fleas too!

I was thinking about trying frontline plus for my dog for a few months. He's currently taking nexgard. There's nothing wrong with his current flea medicine, I was just thinking of trying something different. He's also taking tri-heart for heartworm.

Hartz does not make a topical that is in the same class of drugs as Nexgard so it should be safe to go ahead and give the Nexgard. If there is a major flea infestation you may need to treat the environment (house) as well - Advantage spray, Knockout spray or Fleabusters are what I typically recommend although your best bet is to use an exterminator. Nexgard kills fleas quickly so if you treat all pets in the home for three months it should take care of the environment.

Hello and welcome to Boop by Petco. It has been noted that topicals aren't working as well and NexGuard seems to be a good product right now. It won't be an issue to use NexGuard today with the Advantage applied yesterday. It is two different drugs that won't interfere with eachother. Best of luck with Ivan.

Yes, they do cover the same things, the only difference is a nexgardnwill last for 1 month and a bravecto will last for 3 months. They have different ingredients and a wide safety margin so you will unlikely notice any changes.

Can Nexgard be used in addition to flea shampoo? (Dog has never had be4, was using Frontline. Found fleas and had pro shampooed; still fleas on him.)
If you wait 3-5 days after using flea shampoo, you can probably use NexGard safely. I have always had success in treating fleas using Frontline Plus. Frontline is very effective when used properly. Use the appropriate dose based on your pet's weight. Do not split doses between pets. It must be applied at least 3 days before or after a bath or grooming. It must be applied directly to the skin. This is accomplished by parting the fur with the applicator tip down to the skin. Treat ALL pets in the house for at least 3 consecutive months. The environment must also be treated. Vacuum all areas and dispose of the bag outdoors. Wash all fabrics and beddings that have had contact with any pet in the hottest water temp allowable. Knockout Area treatment (by Virbac) is just one very effective product. Lastly, treat all pets for tapeworm since fleas carry the risk of tapeworm infection. Is Ivermec for heartworms safe to use with nexgard?
Yes it is safe to use these medications together. Just make sure you are using the ivermectin dose for heartworms or better yet a pre made heartworm product with ivermectin (Heartgard or otherwise). I hope this helps and thank you for using Boop by Petco!
