My dog has a raised bump on her eyelid, is it a zit or something else?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Border Collie | Female | spayed | 2 years and 7 months old | 30 lbs

Slight raised area on lower back part of the eye. Just noticed it. Only on one eye. Doesn't seem to bother her at this point but I just noticed it this morning. Not crusty or broken skin, just slightly raised, and missing some fur. First two photos show left eye with raised area. Last picture shows other normal eye.

It's difficult to tell without being able to examine it, but I suspect that this is a meibomian gland adenoma. This is essentially like a zit of the eyelid, where a mucous secreting gland is blocked and grows. They often require surgery to remove them, but they can go away on their own. This could also be an infection in the eyelid, or a tumor, so it's best to get it checked out if it continues to grow, turns red, or irritates the eye. For now, you can apply a cloth soaked in warm water to the eye for 10 minutes twice a day. This may help it to heal quicker and reduce in size over the next couple of weeks. I hope that helps and Oakley gets better soon.
