My puppy has a small bump near his eye. Should I wait or see a vet?

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Male | unneutered | 38 lbs

Our 5 month old lab/boxer mix has a small bump near the corner of his left eye. We have noticed it for about a week. We are wondering if we should wait to see if it goes away on its own or get an appointment with our vet soon? Any idea as to what it could be?

I see what you mean, thank you for proving pictures of Tucker's bump. it could be that it's just a benign growth. I would wait before seeing a vet to see if it gets bigger or doesn't go away. If it does get bigger and/or doesn't go away in a couple of weeks, then have him seen by a vet. I hope this helps :-)

Hello, your picture is too blurry to determine what is there. If it is a small tumor, just have it looked at the next time you are at the vet, but it almost looks like a tick. If the bump was not there a few hours ago, then I would think this is a tick. Thanks for using Boop by Petco.

My dog has a bump near the corner of her eye. Not sure if it is from her scratching or if it's something she should be seen about. Doesn't seem to bother her.
Since it doesn't seem to be bothering her, you could monitor it for a little bit and see if it resolves without treatment. If it persists or gets larger than she should be examined by a vet. She may need an antibiotic and an anti-inflammatory to help.

I would wait until the puppy is fully examined by a vet. It is hard to say what the lump is at this stage. It could be local hair follicle infection and that will go away after a few days of treatment with ointment. However, it may be a small cyst that is rubbing the eye. In that case, the puppy will need a surgery to remove the lump, which could be tricky to do and also pricey.

Without a picture or examining Laila it's difficult to say what is going on for sure. Dogs can get small tumors on their eyelids called meibomian gland tumors and normally these are benign. However, I'm a little concerned that it has gotten larger overnight. It could also be an area of infection or a more serious tumor type. If you can post a picture of Laila it may be helpful to give you further advice. If not, it would be best to err on the side of caution and have Laila examined by your veterinarian. hi. my 3 month old puppy has a small white bump that looked like gunk but i realized was a bump or stye after wiping with an eye wipe. she has had all shots except rabies and hasn’t been outside. she is half papillon half shitszu. it is not bothering
Since your puppy is due for her rabies shot soon and she does not seem to have any problems arising from this bump, I think you can wait to show this to your vet until you go in for the rabies vaccination. However, if your puppy starts squinting, having a discharge from the eye, or generally appears bothered by this you should take her in to your vet before the vaccination date to have her eye and eye lid examined.

Without seeing a picture it is difficult to determine what the bump could be. It is possible that your dog may have a cyst or growth under the eye. I would leave it alone and monitor your dogs behavior. If she begins to rub or scratch it, you may want to contact your veterinarian. If it ruptures or bleeds it may need to be removed.

My dog had entropion surgery a few years ago and now he has a hard bump on the outside of his lower eyelid. Do we need to get this checked? It doesn’t seem to bother him but it has grown a little over the last year from the first time I noticed it.
Hello. The bump on the picture looks like either a growth/tumor or a cyst. Many of these are benign but it is recommended that you have your veterinarian look at it in person to advise you if this should be surgically removed. Hi there and thank you for using Boop by Petco to address your concern. Based on the photo, the swelling could be from a number of things. This could be from an insect bite / sting, an infection or a cyst. Since this just showed up in the last 24 hours, the likelihood of this being a cyst is small. I would say this is more likely from an insect bite / sting. I would recommend applying a warm compress to the area (warm water washcloth) several times a day and consider giving Benadryl. Here is an article on Benadryl dosing you can use as a guideline. I hope this helps! I noticed my 2yr old stafforshire terrier has this small white bump near the corner of his eye. It's not bothering him and there is no discharge.
It looks like a little pustule or cyst. Since it is not bothering him, you could monitor it for a few days and see if it changes. You could also apply a warm washcloth compress to the area and see if that helps. Otherwise, have a vet take a look at it to see if he needs an antibiotic and/or anti-inflammatory to treat.

There is a cyst like bump on my dogs eye lid..it seemed to have look like it burst earlier today and the eye looks better but yet still irritated around the eye. Do I need to go to the vet still?
Hello and welcome to Boop by Petco. Bumps on eye-lids can be cysts, but they can also be other masses like tumors. For this reason getting it checked is recommended. In the mean-time, I would check for squinting, moving away from your hand when you go to pet him on that side of the face, redness/blueness/whiteness of the eye-ball itself that is different from the other eye, or scratching/pawing at the eye. If any of these are occuring, then I would take Marley to a vet. If he isn't too concerned about it, and isn't squinting or moving away from you, and is only minimally pawing at it, then I would recommend getting an E-collar (you can pick one up from any emergency clinic without an appointment as it is now late in Australia), to prevent ongoing trauma to the eye which can get much much worse with scratching. I would then get Marley to your vet in the morning. Best of luck with Marley.
