My dog ate diabetic dog food and is acting strange. Is he poisoned?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Border Collie | Male | neutered | 10 years and 6 months old | 60 lbs

My step mom just changed her dog food because her dog was diagnosed with diabetes. I was not informed about this. I work at a bar and was out of dog food so i borrowed a days worth of food when i got home. Homer is my ten year old border collie. My boyfriend didn't notice the different look to the food as I didnt. So he fed Homer this food. He is acting very strange. Almost deaf now. Did we poison him by accident? He was perfectly fine last night. Please help?! $

If your mom is feeding a prescription dog food for diabetes it will not harm another dog if ingested. If she is feeding a holistic diet unfortunately I cannot say for sure. I would recommend a pet coach consult or even re posting with the name of the food for more information. Hope that helps and homer feels better soon
