My dog has a skin burn after vet treatment. Is it the cream?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Bull Terrier | Female | unspayed | 1 year and 6 months old | 50.706 lbs

Recently took Mac to the vet (approx 10 days ago). For a treatment, however I now see that she has a bit of a skin burn if I can call it that. I'm not sure if it's due to the cream we put on her, the cream is lenovate ointment. The skin burn started about 2 days back. Have attached pictures of what we initially took her to the vet for. Will update with a skin burn picture soon.

Hi and thanks for your post this afternoon. The Lenovate Ointment contains a steroid and is used as an inflammatory agent. If Mac's skin issue has not improved with the cream or seems to be getter worse with the cream, I would ask your veterinarian if there is something else can be used. It is hard to say what the cause of Mac's skin issue is without seeming him and examining him first, but from what I can tell in the picture, it seems to be inflamed and infected. Mac may need antibiotics as well. Sometimes injectable steroids can work well (sometimes better than steroid creams), so I would ask your vet what they would recommend based on Mac's diagnosis. I hope this helps and thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach!
