My senior dog is having seizures, parents refuse vet. What can I do?

Hi I have a staffie who's almost 16 she's very overweight, my parents haven't really been bothered on what she eats which was passed to me but now I'm working in animal care industry I've learnt more and now know how wrong it is, she's had three fits in the last eight days it parents refuse to take her to the vet because they think that whatever they give her will kill her because of her age all I want is some advice as I this is a scary time for me and want to know what we can do, thank you

I'm so sorry to hear that Lilly has developed seizures. Seizures in dogs can be fatal if not treated. There are a huge number of newer anti-convulsant drugs that are much safer than some of the older ones (and even a new diet). I always tell people that old age is not a disease. Seizures and their side effects are much more likely to kill Lilly than any of the medications that your vet might prescribe. I think it is worth having your vet examine her and discuss the treatment options. Hopefully your vet can put your parents' minds at ease about the medication and make Lilly feel better.
