My cat has polio-like symptoms. Is 'feline polio' a real disease?

I was told that my cats need to stay inside because of a cat polo or cat polio outbreak. The infected cats were sick and bleeding from their eyes. I've looked all over the web and cannot find either polo or polio for cats. Is there such a disease?

Hi and thanks for your post. I honestly have not heard of feline polio. There is such a thing as Feline Nonsuppurative Meningoencephalomylelitis which can produce polio like symptoms such as tremors, muscle weakness, wobbling or ataxic gait, however the exact cause remains unknown. A viral agent is suspected but nothing has yet been confirmed. Tick borne disease is also a possibility according to the research. I am sorry I cannot provide more hard evidence for this disease. It is poorly understood and poorly researched. Thanks again for posting!
