Why do old dogs suddenly get severe seizures? Is euthanasia an option?

Our beloved senior Yorkie poo,thirteen years and eight months, began head shaking one recent evening.That quickly progressed to seizures with foaming from the mouth.My husband stayed up all night with him.The seizures continued in the morning,and in between each,he would run around in a panic type fear.Off to our Vet and the prognosis was not good. He sat quietly in the treatment room,but after a lengthy discussion,we made the difficult decision to have him put down.Our hearts are broken...

I am so sorry to hear about Rufus! It sounds like you made the right decision and had his best interest at heart. It isn't normal for older dogs to start having seizures and I agree the prognosis was probably not good. Just know that he is no longer suffering and you gave him a wonderful long life. Hugs to you and your family!
