My senior poodle with Addison's is losing weight. How to help?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Poodle | Female | spayed | 13 years and 2 months old | 48 lbs

13 yr old Standard Poodle with Addison's Disease since 7 yrs. On monthly DOCP and daily 5 mg Prednisone. Is losing 2-3 lbs per month. Eating well, but increased feeding to 3x/day. I cook ground turkey, lamb, chicken to give along with Wellness canned stew meat. Is it possible to increase her weight, if so, how?

If Maggie has been well controlled for that long then I suspect something other than the Addison's is causing the weight loss. I would recommend an examination by your veterinarian. They will likely recommend blood work and possibly x-rays depending on what is revealed or found during the physical exam. I hope this gives you a place to start. I hope Maggie improves soon.
