Can my vaccinated puppy get or spread rabies if he bites someone?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Male | unneutered | 3 months and 29 days old

Hi. I just wanna ask another question. Does having a rabies vaccine certificate means if my puppy bites someone he/she is safe from getting rabies? I wasn’t the one who took him to the vet on his first few scheds so I really don’t have any idea.

If your puppy has a rabies certificate this means he cannot get rabies if another animal that carries rabies bites him and as he cannot catch rabies he also cannot infect other dogs/people with rabies. the vaccine is good for 1-3 years only, after that time the vaccine will need to be repeated.

The vaccine prevents the dog from getting rabies and is very good job at doing this, but no vaccine is 100% effective. However, there is a very low chance he will ever get rabies if properly vaccinated. Make sure he gets that next vaccine in two days and another one in a year. Unfortunately there is no way to test for rabies at this time. All you can do is avoid and confine animals that are showing signs of rabies. Below is a link with information about the signs of rabies: http://www.wikihow.com/Spot-Rabies-in-a-Dog It sounds like your dog has been well vaccinated and should be fine though. I hope that helps.
